At Pumicestone State School we have a Speech Language Pathologist, Ms Sally Zingleman who works here 3 days a week.

What do speech-language pathologists do?

  • Work with teaching staff to optimise explicit teaching of learning activities to build the communication skills of all students

  • Identify students with difficulties in communication. Communication can encompass any of the following

    • Speech (how sounds are produced)

    • Language (making sense of and using words/sentences/paragraphs to communicate with others)

    • Phonological awareness (knowledge of sounds in words, important for learning to read)

    • Reading and writing (where there is a basis in phonological awareness),

    • Fluency (speaking with good rhythm and flow)

  •       Support communication development of students with identified needs.
