At Pumicestone State School all students are explicitly taught spelling rules and strategies.
The Sounds to Letters program is used across the school from Prep through to Year 6.
Proficiency in spelling supports other areas of the curriculum. It is a lifelong skill that develops through integration of phonemic, visual, morphemic and orthographic knowledge.
The Sounds to Letters program has a strong foundation in phonemic awareness and gives students and teachers a common metalanguage to analyse and apply spelling rules and generalisations.
