Challenge week

25/08/2017
What an amazing week we have had here at Pumicestone! Challenge Week was a mixture between Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and book week activities and challenges.
Every afternoon students were able to participate in STEM challenges as part of a team. These challenges were designed to improve student’s team work and resilience. Monday’s challenge students had to create a solar oven to cook marshmallows, Tuesday’s was the pipe cleaner challenge where students had to create the highest tower possible out of pipe cleaners, Wednesday’s was the strongest raft challenge and Thursday students had to create a game involving mathematics.
The great thing about Pumicestone is the opportunity for all students to join in different activities. One of those activities is Makerspace. Makerspace is a before school club for students in grades 3-6, where students basically create anything they want. Over the past 6 weeks students have been designing and creating an arcade game for our STEM fair. Our STEM fair was held on Thursday and gave Makerspace students an opportunity to show the rest of the school the great games they have created as well as the year 6 students to show off some of the work they have been learning in science. We saw claw machines, a range of basketball machines and much more.
It was a great week full of awesome activities. Thank you to everyone who was involved and we look forward to see what our fantastic school does next!
